How To: Create Retail Kits

How To: Create Retail Kits

Retail Kit is a recipe behavior that lets you create and manage gift baskets as inventory items

Make sure you have access to:

  • View and edit recipes

  • Create new items

  • (Optional) View and edit manual adjustments

Step 1: Create the recipe

  1. Go to Item Management > Recipes.

  2. Select Create new recipe.

  3. Enter a description.

  4. Select Add ingredient items, then choose the items to include.

  5. Update ingredient quantities as needed.

  6. Select Save & Close.

Step 2: Create the inventory item

  1. Go to Inventory Items and select Create new item.

  2. Select the correct level and vendor.
IdeaBecause this item is produced in-house, you can create a vendor such as In-house or your business name to use for these items.

  3. Select a store.
InfoThis ensures the correct store code is included when generating a SKU (if your auto-number settings include store code).

  4. Enter the item description.

  5. Select the stores where the item should be available.

  6. (Optional) Add a size.

  7. Set the item as unavailable for purchasing (recommended for in-house produced items).

  8. Make sure the item is not available to add to recipes (because it represents a recipe itself).

  9. Open the Kit/Recipe tab.

  10. In the Recipe field, select the recipe you created.

  11. In Recipe behavior, change POS Menu item to Production.
    This ensures:

    • Producing the item using manual adjustments depletes ingredient inventory

    • Counts and depletion is applied to the inventory item when the item is counted in a physical or sold at the point of sale

  12. Select Save & Close.

Step 3: Produce the item

  1. Filter to the newly created item.

  2. Select the item, then select Adjust on hand.

  3. Enter the quantity you are producing. The system increases the kit quantity and depletes ingredient quantities automatically.

  4. Enter the account and reference.

  5. Select Submit.

After submitting, the kit (for example, Gift basket) will show a higher on-hand quantity and can be sold at the point of sale.
