Quick Reference: QR Codes affecting Barcode Scanning

QR codes are increasingly common on product packaging. When a QR code is too close to the UPC barcode, the scanner may read the QR code instead. This can cause the wrong item to be scanned or an 'Item Not Found' Error when scanning items at the point of sale.

  1. The scanner reads the QR code instead of the barcode.
  2. This can result in:
    1. Item Not Found error at the Point of Sale
    2. Incorrect item scanned

Resolution Options:

  • Cover or block the QR code when scanning.
  • Adjust scanner positioning to target only the barcode.
  • Contact your POS provider to disable QR code scanning if it is not needed.
