What is a Cycle Count in a Physical Inventory?

Cycle Counts allow users to complete a physical inventory for a subset of inventory items.


What is the difference between a Full Physical and a Cycle Count?

Full Physical

  1. Include all inventory items available to the store
  1. Closes out the period prior to the physical inventory

            *no backdated adjustment can be made to inventory items prior to the physical inventory

Cycle Counts

  1. Allows users to count a subset of items
  1. Will NOT close out the period prior to the cycle count

            *Though the period is not closed out, adjustments should not be backdated on items include in the cycle count

  1. Requires the checkbox “This physical is a Cycle Count” to be selected in the physical inventory


How do I pull in only counted items into a Cycle Count?

When completing a cycle count, it is important to ONLY pull in the items you counted into the Cycle Count. If items you did not count are pulled into the physical inventory, the on hand of the item will be reset to zero on the items that were not counted.

After selecting “Create New Physical Inventory” on the Physical Inventory/Physical Inventory module, the first prompt will ask you where you are selecting items from:

1.   Choose “Select from other options.” then click next.



2.   Select the option to “Add items from a Session”.



3.   Check the selected box for the sessions that include your cycle counts then click Next and proceed creating the cycle count physical inventory.


How do I mark a Physical Inventory as a Cycle Count?

To mark a physical inventory as a Cycle Count, click the box “This physical is a Cycle Count” located at the top right of the physical inventory editor.
