Troubleshooting: Description Overlapping on a Printed Label

Troubleshooting: Description Overlapping on a Printed Label

Applies to label printing in Yellow Dog Inventory

ISSUE

On some printed labels, a long item description wraps onto a second line and overlaps the line above it, making the description hard to read. Other label fields — size, color, price, and the barcode — print normally.
Figure: Example the item description overlapping

CAUSE

This happens when an item description is long enough to wrap to a second line within the label's description field. On the current label format, the wrapped text can overlap rather than space out cleanly. This is a recognized display behavior in Yellow Dog Inventory, and our team is working on it.

WORKAROUND

Until an update is in place, you can prevent the overlap by shortening the item description so it fits on a single line.

1.    Open the item in Yellow Dog Inventory and locate the Item Description field.

2.    Shorten the description — remove extra words, abbreviate where practical, or move detail into another field — so the printed description fits on one line.

3.    Reprint the label and confirm the description no longer overlaps.

ℹ NOTE — FINDING THE RIGHT LENGTH

The exact length that fits depends on the label format and font size in use. If a description still wraps, trim it a little more and reprint until it sits on a single line. Shorter, clearly-worded descriptions print most reliably.

Ⓘ STATUS

This is a recognized behavior that our team is actively working to resolve. This article will be updated when an update is available. In the meantime, the workaround above keeps descriptions readable.

VERIFICATION STEPS

1.    Reprint the label after shortening the description.

2.    Confirm the description prints on a single line with no overlap.

3.    Confirm the size, color, price, and barcode still print correctly.
