Troubleshooting: Removing Dimensions
You cannot remove a Dimension value from Dimensions because the system shows that items are still assigned to it.
When you edit those items, the Dimension 2 field might not let you clear the value or change it to Not Set.
Once a secondary dimension is assigned to an item, the item must continue to have a valid value in that field. You cannot clear the field directly in the item editor. You must first replace the existing value with another valid Dimension value.
- Identify the items using the Dimension value you want to remove.
- Go to Item Management > Inventory Items and open each affected item.
- In Dimension 2, select a different Dimension value that will remain active.
- Save the item.
- Repeat this process for all items assigned to the unwanted Dimension value.
- Go to Common Setup > Dimensions.
- Locate the unwanted Dimension value and remove it.
Best Practices
- Before removing a dimension value, ensure that no items are currently assigned to it.
- If an item cannot have its dimension cleared, reassign the item to another valid dimension value first.
- Periodically review item dimensions to ensure unused values are cleaned up before they become widely assigned.
- Confirm that all affected items now have a valid Dimension 2 value.
- Verify that the unwanted Dimension value is no longer assigned to any items.
- Remove the Dimension value from Dimensions.
- Confirm that the value no longer appears in the list.
