How To: Create Dimensions and Dimension Types

Dimensions in Yellow Dog Inventory are item characteristics (like Size, Color, or Season) that help organize products more precisely, making it easier to search, filter, and report.

All client types will use dimensions. The first dimension, size, is required for creating items.


To create a new dimension:

  1. Navigate to Common Setup > Dimensions.

  2. Find the next available dimension title field and click inside the field.
    You may need to use the tabs at the top to navigate to the next available dimensions.  Ex. Dimensions 3-6

  3. In the popup, enter the name of the dimension in the Dimension field then click OK.

To create a new dimension type:

  1. Navigate to Common Setup > Dimensions.

  2. Locate the dimension you want to create a new type for then click Create New [Dimension Name] to the left of that dimension. 

  3. In the pop-up, enter the name of the dimension type in the available field.

  4. Click Save and Close.
