Quick Reference: Yellow Dog Launcher Key Terms




General Terms

Admin Privileges
Special permissions that allow a user to make major changes to a computer system, such as installing software, changing settings, and managing other users.

Configuration (Config)
A .ini file that defines the database connection for an instance.

Directory
Another name for a computer folder.

Instance
A specific Yellow Dog Inventory environment combining an install and configuration.

Install
The folder containing the Yellow Dog executable.

Remote Access
The ability to connect to and control a computer or network from a different location using the internet.

 

Connections

The main interface displaying validated configurations available for launch.

 

Site
Commonly the name of the property or company. Green indicates there is a matching install build. Red indicates no matching install was found.

Version
The current Yellow Dog Inventory version.  

Database
The technical name of the Yellow Dog Inventory instance. This is the database the configuration points to. Green indicates the connection is valid. Red indicates an issue with the configuration or connection.

Launch
Selecting will launch the instance of Yellow Dog Inventory.

 

Configuration – Program


Data Source
This is the file path that stores the data for the application.

Instance Title
This is the title displayed on the Connections page at the top.

Auto-Scan Install Directory
This directory and its sub-directories are automatically scanned for new Yellow Dog Inventory installs to import on start-up. You may specify multiple top-level directories to scan by separating the paths with a semicolon ';'. Importing an install will also import the configs (.ini) files inside the directory that the install is found in.

Auto-Scan Config Directory
This directory (excludes sub-directories) is automatically scanned for new config files to import on start-up.

Scan Now
This scans the directories provided and displays each Yellow Dog instance on the Connections screen.

Always Scan on Start-Up
A feature that automatically scans configured directories each time the launcher opens.

Auto-assign new configs a group (db/schema version)
Automatically assigns incoming configurations to new groups based on build version. When enabled, the launcher categorizes configurations by their version reducing manual organization work.

Log File Path
This is set automatically to route to the users app data directory for this program. You may reroute the logs to drop at any accessible location.

Log Level
This determines the amount of logs that are written to the log file.
  1. Verbose] = All logs and info logs are recorded, mainly for debugging.
  2. [Warn] = All warnings/errors and program failures are recorded.
  3. [Error] = All errors and program failures are recorded.[Fatal] = Only program failures are recorded.


Configuration – Installs

Find Install
Allows users to manually find and map an install location.

Version
The current Yellow Dog Inventory version.  

Install Directory
This is the directory that the YDI executable is located.

Remove
Removes the install file mapping.

 

Configuration – Configs

Find Config File
Allows users to manually find and map config files.

Version
This is the database version the configuration points to.

Site
This is the site name from the configuration file.

Database
This is the database the configuration points to.

Matching Install
Green indicates that this configuration version has a matching install build version in installs. Red indicates that no install matches this version.

Status
This is the connection status of the database.

Group
Allows users to group Yellow Dog inventory instances. Groups are bundled together on the Connections page.

Upload Img
Allows an image to be uploaded as a display icon.

Remove
Removes the config mapping.
