How To: Install Yellow Dog Inventory on Windows
These instructions outline how to install your Yellow Dog Inventory on a Windows computer.
Yellow Dog Inventory Information
- Client ID
- Username (Employee Number)
- Password
Need this information?
- If your project is still in Implementation, please reach out to your Implementation Guide.
- If your project has moved to Support, please contact your company’s internal Yellow Dog Administrator.
- If you are the Yellow Dog Administrator and need your Client ID to assist with installation on an employee’s workspace, click HERE to learn how to find it.
- If you are the Yellow Dog Administrator and do not have access to your Yellow Dog Inventory to identify your Client ID, reach out to Support for assistance at support@yellowdogsoftware.com or757-663-7514.
PC Requirements
- A windows login that has Administrator rights to your PC
- Enter your Client ID, then click Submit.
- Type in your Username and Password, then select Login.
- Click the user icon in the top-right corner and choose Client Install Guide.
- Download the required files: settings.ini and YDInv Installer.
- If the settings.ini file is blocked:
- Google Chrome: Click the notification and select Download unverified file.
- Microsoft Edge: Click the three dots (…) next to the warning, then choose Keep.
- In File Explorer, navigate to your Downloads folder.
- Double-click YDInv_installer to launch the application.
- If you see the pop-up Windows protected your PC, click More info, then select Run anyway.
- Follow the on-screen instructions until the installation is finished.
- Drag the settings.ini file from your downloads folder into the folder where YDInv.exe was installed.
- By default, this folder is located at: C:\Program Files\YellowDogInventory. If you chose a custom installation path, move the file there instead.
- Right Click on the Yellow Dog Icon, and select Run as Administrator to launch the program. If prompted, you will need to enter Windows User credentials that has Administrator rights to your PC.
