How To: Updates Items to Base Unit Configuration

How To: Updates Items to Base Unit Configuration

With Base Unit setup, the on-hand size will be the base unit (the smallest, most basic unit of measure for the inventory item).

The benefits of this approach are:
  1. Standardization: Base Units ensure consistency in inventory tracking, making it easier to compare quantities across different items and transactions.

  2. Flexibility for Conversions: Base Units support easier unit conversions.

This article is for existing Food and Beverage clients that do not currently have items configured with Base Units, but would like to update their item configuration to follow Base Unit standards.
  1. Any new Food and Beverage client from 2025 and beyond will already have their inventory items configured with a Base Unit setup and do not need to follow the instructions in this article.

  2. If you were a client previous to 2025, you may not have your items configured to align with Base Unit setup. You are not required to update your item configuration but it is STRONGLY recommended.

Step 1: Create a Base Unit Size

Step 2: Set the Base Unit Size as the On-Hand (Parent) Size
