Feature Overview: Calculate Quantity By Retail ( Selling items by Weight)

For items sold by weight, such as deli or bulk products, inventory must be deducted accurately. Calculate Quantity by Retail ensures that inventory decreases based on the retail amount sold, not just item count.

The Calculate Quantity by Retail setting is configured in Interfaces and can be applied at the item or level level.

Use this feature when selling items by weight, such as:

  • Deli counter items

  • Bulk candy or similar products

  • Most commonly food and beverage (F&B)

  • Also applicable to some retail businesses

  1. For example, Chicken Salad sells for $5.99 per pound.
  2. If a customer purchases $2.99 worth at the point of sale, Yellow Dog automatically deducts 0.5 lb of Chicken Salad from inventory.
  1. Confirm the recipe exists for the item sold by weight.
    1. For accurate tracking, assign a Net Weight or Volume to the recipe.
  2. Confirm the recipe is attached to an inventory item.
    1. Set the correct Recipe Behavior.
    2. Update the default behavior from Retail Kit to Batch or Production, as appropriate.
    3. Only the description and countable size need to be configured on the inventory item.
  3. Update the interface for Calculate Quantity by Retail to:
    1. Yes – Quantity = Total Retail / Item Retail
