Feature Overview: Watchdog Report

Inventory manager / data administrator  ·  Yellow Dog Inventory 2026

 WHY IT'S IMPORTANT

The Watchdog Report helps identify data issues that may affect inventory accuracy. Reviewing it regularly, and especially before a physical inventory, keeps your database clean and reliable.

It is built for inventory managers, data administrators, and anyone responsible for maintaining item records or preparing for physical inventory.

 WHERE

Home > Watchdog, or from your saved reports as 201 – ALR – Check Watchdog.

 HOW IT WORKS

The Watchdog Report scans your Yellow Dog Inventory database for inconsistencies and configuration issues that may affect inventory accuracy. It applies a set of predefined rules to identify common problems, then organizes the results into categories based on severity so you can focus on what matters most.

 KEY FEATURES

Issue identification

Automatically scans the database for common errors such as negative on-hands, missing prices, incomplete recipes, and misassigned items.

Severity-based filtering

Lets you focus on issues by importance: Normal (critical), Low (potential warnings), and Clutter (a comprehensive view).

Context filters

Lets you create and save custom filters so you can repeatedly focus on the issues most relevant to your workflow.

Direct access to fixes

Opens the related module so you can resolve an issue quickly, such as launching the Recipe Editor to repair a broken recipe.

Ignore functionality

Lets you ignore known or intentional exceptions so they do not clutter future reports.

Automatic emailing

Can be scheduled to email on a regular basis, giving you a recurring reminder to review issues.

 BEST PRACTICES

Have operational teams review the Watchdog Report regularly.

Have managers or accounting review it again before month-end and before committing a physical inventory.

Use the Ignore function for intentional exceptions so each review focuses on genuine issues.
