What are Yellow Dogs best practices for swapping Parent/Child Relationships?

Yellow Dog can create related or Parent/Child Items, and an example could be cans of soda- they are ordered by the case and sold by the can or each. In a traditional Parent/Child relationship the Case would be the Parent and the Can/each would be the child. On hands always remain with the parent item, so in this configuration you will see how many cases you have rather than cans.  Yellow Dog also provides the ability to Swap this relationship should you decide to be configured as Reverse Parent/Child. Typically, when making these changes, Yellow Dog advises letting maintenance run over night to clean up on hands, and calculated costs. Keep in mind, that even after maintenance runs manual adjustments may still need to be done the next day to clean up the remaining on hands. An alternative would be to perform a physical on these items to true up the on hands.

*This task will require right click permissions to Set Parent Child, as well as Manual Adjustment Permissions*

1. Navigate to the items in question, highlight both, right click and select Swap Parent/Child Relationship

2. If the item has a single child, then that item becomes the Parent, if the item has multiple children then you will be given that opportunity to select which item you would like as the parent.

3. The on hands should update immediately to reflect the change. As mentioned, if the on hands or calculated cost seem ‘off’ initially, please allow maintenance to run over night before makings adjustments.

4.  Refresh data will update the order the items are displayed in

5. After maintenance has had chance to run over night, if the on hands are still ‘off’ Yellow Dog advises perform a manual adjustment on the item or perform a physical inventory.
