Quick Reference: Consider UPCs to be Globally Unique

This setting determines whether a UPC can be assigned to more than one item in your system.

You must have the following permissions:

  • System Setup

  • Options

  • View and edit Options --> inventory

You can find this setting under  System Setup > Options > Inventory

Yellow Dog recommends leaving this setting unchecked and treating UPCs as globally unique.

Enable this option only when each store in Yellow Dog operates independently, such as hospital gift shops. These locations are often run by volunteers who have access only to their assigned store and cannot view or edit UPCs used by other stores. Leaving the setting unchecked allows users to edit items in their location without conflicts.
