Troubleshooting: Resolving the “No Printers are Installed” Error

 WHY IT'S IMPORTANT

Yellow Dog Inventory checks for a default printer to confirm that printing is available on a workstation. If no printer is set as the default, Yellow Dog Inventory can't detect any printers — even if one is physically connected — and printing won't work until the setting is corrected.

 ISSUE

When you try to print from Yellow Dog Inventory, you see the error No printers are installed, and the application is unable to detect any printers connected to the workstation.

 CAUSE

This error occurs when no printer on the workstation has been set as the default. Yellow Dog Inventory relies on the Windows default printer setting to detect that printers are installed — without one selected, it reports that none are available, regardless of how many are physically connected.

 TROUBLESHOOTING

Set a Default Printer

1.   Open the Windows Start Menu and type Control Panel, then select it from the results.

2.   In Control Panel, go to Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers.

3.   Right-click the printer you want to use, then select Set as default printer.

Note: The default printer does not have to be your Zebra label printer — any installed printer can be set as the default.

 WHEN TO CONTACT SUPPORT

Contact Yellow Dog Support if you've set a default printer and Yellow Dog Inventory still shows this error, or if Devices and Printers doesn't list any printers to choose from.
