4. Open CountappsDeviceAuthorizer.exe
- This is used to create a unique device key that will register the device to the client’s database during their first sync. This prevents any random devices to be used with the sync and configures both mobile applications to be in the “docking mode”.
- With the device plugged in, start by hitting the “Load from Connected Device” button.
- This will populate the connected device’s Serial Number, Model and Manufacturer
- Next you will select the export option, “Write to Device”.
- This will create a file on the device that is used to register to the database. This file will be removed when the sync runs.
- A YD Notice will popup letting you know that the export was completed and saved to the device.
- You can make sure that the file was written properly by opening up the device’s storage and navigating to YellowDogData. Here you should see the deviceAuthorizationKey.ydi.

Syncing using Sync with Count Apps
CLICK HERE for a short video demonstrating how to use the sync with count apps application.
1. Create a working directory in the Yellow Dog folder that will store data coming to and from the device.
- Run the sync as administrator. If you do not have administrator rights to your PC, then you will need to reach out to your onsite IT.
- Navigate to the Configure tab. The Working Folder should point to the folder you created in step 1.
- You can test the connection first by navigating to YDI Database and selecting “Test Connection”. The Server and Database Name should populate from the settings.ini folder.
- Navigate back to the Go tab to run the sync. The first sync should be a full Go.
- Go – This will prompt a full sync to run. The user will be prompted to log in using their Yellow Dog Credentials. This should be the same user that will be using the CountRetail apps. In some instances, it may be recommended to set up a generic sync user in the system.
- Pull – This will prompt a pull of exported sessions from the device. It does not require the user to log in
- The first sync will consume the deviceAuthorizationKey.ydi and effectively register the device to the database. Opening the device’s storage and navigating to YellowDogData, you will no longer see this file.
- The device is now ready to be used. Unplug the device and open either Count Retail. The user will skip the login screen as it will use the credentials that were entered when running the sync to validate the user and their access. If launching the application takes you to a log in screen requesting ClientID, Username & Password then application was most likely opened prior to running the sync initially. Uninstall the application, reinstall (do not open the application after installing, prior to syncing) run the sync again, and re-open.
- When the user has finished their session, instead of the “Finalize” option there is a new “Export Session” in its place. This Export will create the file of their counts. The user will get a popup confirming they are ready to export as there is no way to undo an export.
- Note that unlike the mobile apps, there is no force recount with the docked versions.
- Once all sessions have been exported that are needed, reconnect the device via USB.
- Open the SyncYdiWithCountApps.exe and click either Pull or Go.
- All the sessions that are exported will now be available in Yellow Dog under the sessions list to pulled into the physical.
A Go should always be run prior to beginning a physical inventory so new items and item updates are in the device.
